Profiled Products

It is impossible to imagine modern industrial single story building constructions without the practical use of metal profile sheets. Today the systems are technically proven and offer a lot of improvements for many applications in the field of industrial buildings and of course for residential and prestigious buildings too. The used materials vary from coated metal sheets, aluminium, copper, titanium, zinc and others. At its beginning metal cladding products (mostly trapezoidal sheets) were commonly used for agricultural buildings and sometimes they are still associated with this kind of application. Today highly sepcialized systems are available to meet almost every requirement customer may desire in terms of aesthetical, structural, fire protection and weather protection demands. Metal cladding products offer an unbeatable price/performance ratio for large scale industrial buildings. Light weight and flexibility in design makes them the perfect products for large free spans. Some common applications where profiled sheets are used are: industrial buildings, commercial buildings, sport buildings, power plants, public buildings, office and administration buildings.

Profiled products cover all areas of the building envelopes: they are used for façade cladding (exterior and interior), roofing (exterior and interior) and as compound floors. Complete systems are available including compound products like insulating sandwich panels (PUR), mineral wool panels or sidings, cassettes, standing seams, tiles. Profiled products allow the design of challenging façades and roof constructions with sophisticated aesthetical appearance.

Profiled steel sheets are produced through a metal forming process in which the (cold-rolled) sheet is progressively formed through a series of bending roll units. The process is performed continuously. The steel sheet is led and forced through the roll stations, which are positioned above and below and at the side of the sheet. The size, position and the shape of the roller depends on the final cross-section of the desired profile. During the roll forming process each roll stage performs one stage in the complete bending of the sheet.

From a historical point of view wikipedia writes about metal profile sheets: "Trapezoidal profiles and cassettes have been known in Europe for around 100 years. Today's popular characteristic profile shape came to Europe from the USA in the 50s and has steadily and noticeably gained in relevance since about 1960. At the present moment, the proportion of load bearing, room sealing trapezoidal profiles used in the overall area of all new and slightly sloping roofs amounts to 90%. Above all else the wide acceptance has resulted from the simple constructive training, the easy, fast assembly, the appealing formal style and last but not least, the economicalness of the trapezoidal profile construction."

Perforated Sheets

From a visible point of view perforated façades are innovative and offer delightful interludes of light and shade. The creative exposure with this interaction offers solutions and enhancements for upgrading (or renovation) of buildings and façades to a more modern style. Like expanded metal perforated sheets are perfectly suited for car park screening and various type of fences. Due to the size and pattern of the holes the permeability of views offer enormous flexibility in the design. The results are simple yet elegant solutions for modern lookind façades. Usually perforated sheets are offered made from aluminium in many different shapes like sheets, sidings, cassettes, standing seam and profiled products.

On wikipedia with regard to better energy savings: "The acoustic performance of perforated metal helps people or workers to limit health effects from noise. Studies have shown that perforated metals help reduce sound levels. Studies have shown that having buildings use perforated metal sheets in front of their façade can bring in one study 29% energy savings (HVAC + Lighting estimated consumption in 1 year) and in the second one 45% energy savings (heating, ventilation, air conditioning). Depending on the location of the building (intensity of the external sun), solar irradiation can be decrease by 77.9%."

Cassettes

Because of the flexibility in size, design and material, arrangement of joints and fastening metal cassettes offer today very sophisticated solutions for innovative facade designs. Special design cassettes elements allow façades to appear like constructed with stone elements. Hidden fixiation and an embossed surfaces may support this appearance aswell as the accentuation of the façade through the striking shadow gaps. This offers a very cost-effective alternative for stone elements. To stiffen large size cassettes sometimes rigid materials are glued on the rear side.

Expanded Metal

Steel expanded metal is a sheet product that has been slit and stretched to its desired size. During the stretch process the slits expand to diamond shaped openings. They are produced from all kind of materials including plates of carbon, galvanized and stainless steel as well as aluminium and many alloys. Because it is made from one solid piece its structure remains stable - it cannot unravel. Today a wide array of different opening shapes are available. Steel expanded metal offers savings in weight and metal, free passage of light, liquid, sound and air, while providing a decorative effect. They are used for all kind of fences, metal stairs and very often for multi store car parks offering the illusion of a solid façade but still providing the necessary ventilation.
